Our Birds

Listed below are all of the hybrid POL hens we have for sale here at Meadowgate Farm any of these hybrid hens can be mixed together giving you a wonderfully colourful flock, unfortunately we cannot take reservations for the hens, if you find that the chicken you would like is sold out, email us with your requirements and we will send you an email when they become available again.

Please remember we only have a small flock and that poultry breeding is our hobby and not our real jobs!

When you collect your hens please dont forget to bring either a box, (a crisp size box will hold two hens) or a suitable pet carrier.

PLEASE NOTE. ALL HENS ARE COLLECTION ONLY, WE CANNOT DELIVER. 

Our birds are mostly Rhode Island Red Crosses bred for their hardiness, placid good nature and egg laying ability.

Chickens make wonderful family pets with the added benefits of getting your eggs both fresh and free.

POL hybrid hens are 15+ weeks old, generally they will begin to lay around 20 weeks.

All visits are by appoinment only.

Our Hybrids

Golden Weaver Comets

Both placid and hardy she lays large brown eggs. Over a year she will produce around 300.

As was mentioned in Country Smallholder Magazine is that she is liable to break into a trot chasing you, if you attempt to escape her loving attentions.

Black Rangers

This is a top quality egg layer. Her egg shell quality is superb and she lays nearly 300 brown eggs per year.

Her colour ranges from all black with a green tint and copper feathers around the neck and chest. A perfect free range bird.

Meadowgate Blues

A beautiful placid bluish bird. A good natured girl and will lay up to 250 brown eggs per annum.

Amber Weaver Comets

Ideally suited for the garden and has a friendly and inquisitive nature. A very calm bird that will produce up to 300 brown eggs for you during the year.

A beautiful cream colour, a great pet as well as a prolific layer
